Exhibitions are -- for the committed artist -- those freighted and contingent moments when all the private hours of labor and creativity -- playful as they may be! -- reveal to those outside one's own private circle the material objects of whatever vision inspired the artist's work in the first place. It's an absolute unknown how people will react or respond to these objects. It perhaps can be frightening. It can also be exhilarating. Either way, it is very personal, sort of like fishing using bits of one's own flesh as bait. Or not. Everyone is different. The amusing thing is, one isn't asked to do it. It is done of one's own free will. And yet one does it.
